Today was the monthly meet and mini trade fayre for our local LETS group. I took along some jars of apple and blackberry jam and a freshly made loaf to trade out and I came home with lots of goodies that I had traded for with other members. It was a lovely few hours socialising and trading was brisk. Here are some of the things I came home with today:
I started off with two dozen freshly laid free range eggs :)
This is more of a note system/ journal than a diary, with pages for things like wildlife, flowers.household notes etc.
A hand carved wooden shortbread stamp - biscuit sized.
Ten assorted hand made cards.
Scented votive candles
More candles in small tin buckets
Some lovely hand made glass trinkets.
and lastly my favourite trade of the day, a burred oak plaque. This is made from a slice of oak sourced locally and hand finished and polished. It is inset with two pieces of hand made glass. It is a gorgeous tactile piece of work, the burr adds lots of detail and texture to the grain of the wood, and I love that it came from the grounds of Shennanton House which is just a few miles from our home so it is really local. It was also made by a friend of mine which makes it more special to me.
Now I need to find the right place to display it where the light can shine through the glass insets. I really love things made from wood, especially tactile pieces. All in all it was a good morning's trading and not a single penny changed hands.

Wow! Do you have more details you can share on how the trading works? I'd love to know more. :-)
ReplyDeleteHi, There is an old post here that explains simply how the system works.

I'm so jealous of these LETS meetings and coffee mornings you go to, you always display such gorgeous goodies on your blog. The slice of wood is fabulous and I can see you will treasure that always.
ReplyDeleteI looked for the scheme around here but the most local is about 50mile round trip via a busy city centre, so a no go really.
Have a lovely day

You could always start something informally between a group of friends.
DeleteI did try that about 5 years ago and one person said hers hadn't been documented properly and caused a row, things went a bit sour and I wouldn't do it anymore. I really feel it has to be something very organised and I don't have the time to make those sorts of commitments, but would love to join an established group.
DeleteWow .. great .. and love the oak slice too !
ReplyDeleteAmazing what you find 24 eggs can bring in a trade or two! I love your new things.
ReplyDeleteHi! I have nominated you for the Liebster Award. Congrats!
